To cut a long story short - we got permission and shot there - only two days ago - last Saturday in fact. We haven't put the film in for developing yet - but from the digital stills we took it looks fantastic. We also decided to shoot this on 16mm not Super 8 and this will be the first time I've used my Beaulieu R16
Angela Walsh, The Producer of TongMaster, very generously gave us some left over stock from that production, and we are bought one more daylight load from Kodak as well

Everything went well on the shoot - except for a few little hiccups - the venue had a timer that automatically brought on some lights - and an air conditioner - just before we were starting to film - after a long while we managed to get around the lighting problem - but we couldn't get the air conditioner off - which created a problem for the smoke effect for the shaft of light we wanted - and I think in the end it will be digitally composited in
We've got one more days shooting - just two shots of "The First Fair One" which will be done in a week or so
The following are digital stills we took on the day - NOT actual frames from the movie

We did the second shoot today - and it went pretty well over all. In this scene Wendi Koster is playing the First Fair One. When I read the poem I wasn't sure what Leigh was getting at in those lines about the first fair one - and I thought perhaps he may have been referring to a personified first fair one, given the penchant for classical Greek and Roman mythology in medieval English literature - so I decided to interpret that part of the poem that way - and hence Wendi is playing a kind of classical goddess ~ who happily drifts off to sleep.
The only thing that worries us is we ran out of film on the last shot - the dolly in as she sleeps. I think this will be alright though, as we shot a lot of different angles to be able to experiment with different ways of editing the scene - and amongst it all we've got enough. The dolly was such a great shot, and hopefully we have enough of it for it to be useable. We did do it with the miniDV camera as well and it looks great - that's what the two stills are from of Wendi from side on (I'm surprised that camera can take such a good image - it's a JVC GRDV820ea
The film's getting developed tomorrow night - so here's hoping - remembering this is the first time we've used the camera - the R16 as well
Rob Greenfield, David Rusanow and Wendi Koster - with David's home made pipe dolly - the camera
was rested on a pillow and stabilised with a hockey strap!
Um I don't know how to explain this shot --- medium close up - lying down!
